7th Annual Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game

On September 7th, 2025, we hosted the 7th Annual Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game. Team Doug defeated Team Marvin by a final score of 135-112. David Seagers won the Kiwan Smith Most Valuable Player award. Shaun Diaz and Kevin Young received their Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Achievement Awards. Adonai Lewis, Dez Herring, Jackie Margulis, Kaheem Davis Jr, and Luka Davis received the first-ever Max's All Stars Youth Basketball Achievement Awards. Thank you to all the players and their families/friends for attending. This is one of the most cherished Max's All Stars team traditions. It's not an ordinary All Star Game. Our players really compete and want to win. Thank you to everyone who participated and continues to support Max's All Stars as we approach 20 years of basketball.

Max's All Stars claim Spring 2025 Basketball City Turbo League Monday Division Championship

April 29, 2025 - Max's All Stars won the 22nd men's championship in team history! We are the Spring 2025 Basketball City Turbo League Monday Division Champions! The regular season was cardio, but with a trophy and rings on the line, our guys flipped the switch and dominated. Thank you to Dave Schoenholt and the entire Basketball City staff for hosting a wonderful league. Max's All Stars win Fall 2024 ZogSports Chelsea Piers 5-on-5 Men's Basketball League Championship

Win #302 was a dogfight, but we got some dawgs (🗣️ *PJ Tucker voice*)!

On November 13th, 2024 - Max's All Stars won the Fall 2024 ZogSports Chelsea Piers 5-on-5 Men's Basketball League Championship last night. We finished the season undefeated (10-0). This was a special season. Our team reached the 300-win milestone and we scored 111 points in a game. It was a lot of fun and we are grateful to all the players - David Seagers, Gio Gabbidon, Kadeem Nicholas, Kaheem Davis, Marvin Billups Jr, Nikola Djurdjevic, Patrick James, Rob Hueston, Rob Thomas, Tre'Quan Seagers, and Winston Graham. Thank you all! Love you guys to death!

Max's All Stars win 300th game in team history

THREE HUNDOOO!!!

On November 5th, 2024 - Max's All Stars reached 300 victories with a 76-70 win over Noodle Dogs at Chelsea Piers! Who would have thought? It's hard to put into words what this milestone means. When we were starting out at Hofstra University in 2006, no one could have envisioned all this.

Max's All Stars win Spring 2024 NYC Basketball League Championship

The Olympics are underway, but Max's All Stars already earned our gold medals! 🥇

On Monday, July 22nd - Max's All Stars won the Spring 2024 NYC Basketball League Championship. We defeated the #1 seed, Slick Willie's, by a final score of 78-68. This championship was all about redemption. Losing the championship game last season by a single point definitely fueled us. We also lost to Slick Willie's during the regular season, so beating them for the title was definitely sweet. Max's All Stars finished this season with a 9-1 record. Thank you to all our players - Angel Gonzalez, Branden Gibson, David Seagers, Doug Herring, Gerrel Irvin, Gio Gabbidon, Kaheem Davis, Kevin Major, Marvin Billups Jr, Nikola Djurdjevic, Patrick James, Robert Hueston, and Shereef Taylor. Also, thank you to Bryson Lassiter and Jordan Vidal for filling in along the way. This was a challenging season for Max's All Stars. Our players battled numerous injuries, we had to work around different schedules and availabilities - but we were able to piece it together and bring home the 20th championship in the history of our men's team.

This championship game capped off a special few days for our team. First, our Hall of Fame Game and then this championship. Seeing our players bring their families on a Monday night was so special. This is what Max's All Stars is all about! Thank you to everyone for your love and support!

6th Annual Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game

Saturday, July 20th, 2024 - we hosted the 6th Annual Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game. Our captains were David Seagers (Team Dave) and Spencer Smith (Team Ross). This might have been one of the most electric Hall of Fame Games we've ever had! Team Ross defeated Team Dave by a final score of 111-103. William Davis DOMINATED, shattering the single-game scoring record with an absurd 57 points! (Yes, you read that correctly. It is not a typo. 57 POINTS!!) He went home with the Kiwan Smith Most Valuable Player Award. Willie was also one of three recipients of the Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Achievement Award this year, along with Kevin Pegram and Shaun Diaz.

This has become one of the marquee Max's All Stars events. It is a tradition that everyone eagerly anticipates. The amazing thing is that each year, this event continues to get better and better. Having our families all there, the kids playing together - it's such a beautiful thing.

Thank you to all the players who made the trip from near and far to participate and all our families/friends for coming to show love and support. Special thanks to Ren Hsieh and The Dynasty League for providing the gym rental and referees; to Dicky Fung and NYC Basketball League for providing scorekeeping; and to Silky C Productions for capturing everything (the photos/videos are 🔥). Also, thank you to East End Bar and Grill for hosting our post-game festivities (shoutout to Richie). Max's All Stars completed the Winter 2024 NYC Basketball League season with a 10-3 record. We suffered a heartbreaking loss in the championship game by a single point, but our team battled. Had our chances, but this will fuel us going forward. Max's All Stars win 2024 Full Court Charity Challenge Open Division Championship

On Saturday, March 16, 2024 - Max's All Stars reign as champions of the Full Court Charity Challenge corporate division came to an end...

We finally moved up to the open division. Our roster featured a few of our mainstay players - Kaheem Davis, Marvin Billups Jr, Spencer Smith, and William Davis; some old friends - David Seagers, Kevin Pegram, and Shaun Diaz; and a couple of new reinforcements - Christopher Egi, Elijah Brown, and Todd O'Brien. Max's All Stars got off to a rocky start. Things looked bleak early, but this team thrives with our backs against the wall. We lost the first game vs Century 21 Cityside (44-37), but bounced back to win the second game vs Skyhawks (33-23). The third game was back and forth, but ultimately BH - Commonwealth handed us a second loss in pool play (44-41). We had one pool play game left against the defending champions, SCS (who were also 1-2). It was win or go home for both of us. Max's All Stars was aggressive from jump and beat them easily (48-25). All we needed was an opportunity to keep playing, survive and advance. From there we beat Comella's in a short play-in game (8-3) and SLEP in OT in the quarterfinals (24-19). Elijah Brown hit a layup with time expiring to force OT vs SLEP. We had a relatively easy win in the semifinals vs Woody's (43-29), setting up a classic in the championship game vs Game Creek. Max's All Stars got off to a great start, but our 10-point lead eventually evaporated and it became a back and forth game again. It came down to who had the ball last. Tied at 35, Spencer Smith brought the ball up on the left side and found Christopher Egi who took his defender right to the basket for the easy layup as time expired! Different division, same result! Max's All Stars kept fighting and eventually, we prevailed!

Every time it appears that our story is complete, we add another chapter. This would not be possible without the love and support from our families and friends. As always, Bob Forlenza put together a tremendous tournament. It was so much fun! This event brings out the best in us every single year. Max's All Stars and ARTEMIS are proud to support Nashoba Learning Group and MGH Lurie Center for Autism. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in this tournament. Thank you to everyone who attended - especially the family members of our players. We truly felt all the love and support. Also, thank you to ARTEMIS for sponsoring our team as well.

5th Annual Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game

The 5th Annual Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game took place on July 22nd, 2023 and it was incredible! This event generates a lot of hype every year and the 2023 edition did not disappoint! Team Reef defeated Team Troy by a final score of 93-89. It was another close, hard fought game (albeit a little bit sloppy and chippy at times, but nothing serious). Kevin Pegram finally won the MVP award, which was renamed in honor of Kiwan Smith. Pegram had yet another easy HOF Game double-double, finishing with 17 points/17 rebounds/6 assists/4 blocks for Team Reef. The way this event and the Max's All Stars family has grown over the years has been beautiful to watch. Thank you to all the players, family, and friends for attending. Additional thanks to The Windward School for hosting, The Dynasty League for providing referees/scorekeeping (Kevin Young too)/filming, Wooter Apparel for the new and improved jerseys, and Eye Of Asaad for the amazing photos. After the game, we all had a wonderful time at East End Bar & Grill!

Max's All Stars win 2023 Full Court Charity Challenge Corporate Division Championship

On Saturday, March 11, 2023 - Max's All Stars won the Full Court Charity Challenge Corporate Division Championship for the fourth consecutive time. It was not an easy path for us. Max's All Stars had to play seven games total, winning six of them to become champions. We got off to a slow start in the first two games of the day and suffered a surprisingly sloppy defeat in the third game during pool play. However, after a lunch break, we came out much stronger in the fourth and final pool play game and carried that intensity into the single-elimination rounds where we won three straight games to become champions once again. Our roster featured two new players making their Max's All Stars debuts - Fred Bertrand and Gerrel Irvin. They joined veterans Jason Lewis, John Simmons, Kaheem Davis, Marvin Billups Jr, Nikola Djurdjevic, Patrick James, Shereef Taylor, Spencer Smith (MVP), and William Davis. Everyone made valuable contributions throughout the tournament that helped Max's All Stars claim victory and bring home another trophy! These guys battled through injuries, cramps, and fatigue. Even after losing the third game of the day, the confidence of our players was unshaken. They knew we would emerge victorious no matter what! Everyone locked in from that moment. Their focus and determination carried us. As always, Bob Forlenza put together a tremendous tournament. It was so much fun! Max's All Stars and ARTEMIS are proud to support Nashoba Learning Group and MGH Lurie Center for Autism. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in this tournament. Last Saturday, November 5th, 2022 - we hosted Max's All Stars Family Day and it was a blast! Thank you to everyone who attended! 4th Annual Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game

On Saturday, July 30, 2022 - Max's All Stars hosted it's 4th Annual Hall of Fame Game. Words cannot adequately describe how amazing it was. You could feel the love and excitement. Seeing all our family and friends, the kids running around and playing together - it was just beautiful. This is what it's all about. The game itself was a nail-biter. Both teams left it all on the court. It could have gone either way, but Team Kaheem prevailed over Team Branden by a final score of 114-113. Both teams wanted to claim victory so badly (primarily for the bragging rights of course). Their desire and will to win was on full display. Max's All Stars win 2022 Full Court Charity Challenge Corporate Division Championship

This past Saturday, March 5, 2022 - Max's All Stars won the Full Court Charity Challenge Corporate Division Championship for the third consecutive time. This might be the sweetest one of them all. After two years of not being able to host the tournament due to the pandemic, Bob Forlenza put together a tremendous event this year. We are extremely grateful for all his hard work and dedication to pull this thing off and continue raising money/awareness for such an important cause. Max's All Stars and ARTEMIS are proud to support Nashoba Learning Group and MGH Lurie Center for Autism. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in this tournament. This year, we finished 6-0 and won the championship thanks to our incredible players - Branden Gibson, Jason Lewis, Kaheem Davis, Marvin Billups Jr, Patrick James, Rob Thomas, Shereef Taylor, Spencer Smith, Troy Whittington, and William Davis. Everyone played hard, contributed, and left everything on the court to capture this championship. The guys were locked in from start to finish. The level of focus, intensity, and unselfishness towards one common goal was some of best we've ever had in the history of Max's All Stars. We were not gonna be denied. Our guys battled through cramps, injuries, fatigue - but the end result made it all worthwhile. We also had tremendous support from Denice Wheeler, Mandy Billups, Sadia Smith, and Sandra Davis + KJ and Luka Davis of course. They cheered us on, captured a ton of great photos/videos, and showed us so much love. We are beyond blessed and thankful to everyone who supports us. Also, thank you to ARTEMIS for sponsoring our team as well. We greatly appreciate the continued support.

Max's All Stars 2021 Year In Review

Max's All Stars returned to action after a nearly year-long hiatus. We started with a series of bi-weekly open runs that took place in January-March. In April, we joined the NYC Basketball League Mid-Winter Restart season on Saturdays. We finished the season with an 8-2 record and reached the championship game, but unfortunately fell short by a single point. In August, we played in The Give Back Charity Tournament and finished 1-0 there. That marked the end of Max's All Stars 2021 campaign. While we did not win a championship in our first year back, it was important for us to get together again and just play basketball. We shook off some rust and demonstrated the ability to still compete on a high level. Thank you to everyone who took part in our open runs/games this past year: Angel Gonzalez, Branden Gibson, Brian Hardy*, Corey Orgias, Deshawn Cann*, Doug Herring, Gio Gabbidon*, Jason Lewis, John Simmons, Joshua Smith, Justin Cardenas*, Kaheem Davis, Keone Billey*, Kevin Major, Kevin Young, Marvin Billups Jr, Maxx Miller*, Nikola Djurdjevic, Patrick James, Shaun Diaz, Shereef Taylor, and Spencer Smith. * - indicates new member of Max's All Stars.

Max's All Stars had a few new members join our team this year: Purchase College F/C - Brian Hardy; Purchase College guard and 2018 Skyline Conference Player of the Year - Deshawn Cann; Hunter College guard - Gio Gabbidon; two alums from our youth basketball program - Justin Cardenas (College of Staten Island) and Keone Billey (Kingsborough Community College); and Purchase College G/F - Maxx Miller.

We also setup a t-shirt fundraiser for Kaheem Davis who put together care packages for the high school graduating class of 2021. Kaheem provided the high school seniors with valuable tools to be successful. All proceeds of this t-shirt fundraiser went towards sneakers, clothing, gift cards, snacks/beverages for the incoming college freshmen. Max's All Stars is proud to support Kaheem and this tremendous cause for the second consecutive year and hopes to continue being active charitably in the future.

In addition to our return to basketball this past year, we also celebrated a lot of far more significant milestones off the court. Our players are winning beyond basketball - getting married, starting families, and achieving true success in life. That's what is most important. We look forward to more of that in 2022 and beyond + hopefully a few more wins and championships!

Max's All Stars Surprise Birthday Open Run

Back on December 19th, 2020 - Patrick James organized an incredible surprise open run for my birthday! Generally, I don't write in the first-person on this page because it's really about our team - but on this occasion I have to. This was honestly one of the greatest birthday surprises of my life and I am beyond grateful to everyone who took part. This team photo (see below) is definitely one of my all-time favorites and it should be on display at the Musée du Louvre! I had the absolute best time with everyone and I can't thank you enough! As far as the competition is concerned, Team Marvin faced Team Kaheem for four games (first to 15 points, 1s and 2s). Team Marvin won and the aggregate score was 60-44. Thank you Patrick for organizing this and to everyone who came through - Corey Orgias, Doug Herring, Herman Billups, Jason Lewis, Justin Cardenas, Kaheem Davis, Keone Billey, Marvin Billups Jr, Shereef Taylor and Spencer Smith. Also, thank you to Angel Gonzalez, Kevin Young and Rob Thomas who couldn't be there, but still showed love. I love and appreciate you guys so much! I am so thankful that we did this! 2020 Max's All Stars Community Service Award presented to Kaheem Davis

We did not induct any new members to the Max's All Stars Hall of Fame this year, but a very special new award was introduced. The first-ever recipient of the Max's All Stars Community Service Award is Kaheem Davis in recognition of his efforts to provide mentorship and resources to local graduating high school seniors this year. Hopefully this award inspires all of us to make an impact within our communities. Congratulations Kaheem!

Third Annual Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game/Open Run

Two weeks ago, on October 24th, 2020 - Max's All Stars hosted an unofficial Hall of Fame Game/Open Run at The Post BK. Thank you to Indoor Hoops for allowing us to rent the court. Jason Lewis and Spencer Smith were our two captains. Obviously this was not a normal Max's All Stars Hall of Fame Game. Unfortunately, capacity was limited so we were not able to have all members of the Max's All Stars family take part. There were no spectators, no referees or scorekeepers - but this was still a very special event. It was the first Max's All Stars basketball event held in 2020. Getting everyone together, catching up and playing some basketball was extremely gratifying during these difficult times. It should be noted that all the necessary precautions were taken. The Post BK and Indoor Hoops had very strict COVID-19 protocols that we all followed. All players were pre-registered online, temperatures were taken and masks were worn at all times when we weren't playing basketball. This was a fun and safe environment. As far as the competition is concerned, Team Spencer faced Team Jason for five games (first to 15 points, 1s and 2s). Team Spencer won and the aggregate score was 75-58. Spencer Smith was named MVP. Thank you to everyone who participated - Angel Gonzalez, Corey Orgias, Jason Lewis, John Simmons, Justin Cardenas, Kaheem Davis, Keone Billey, Kevin Major, Marvin Billups Jr, Nikola Djurdjevic, Patrick James, Rishawn Johnson, Shaun Diaz and Spencer Smith. It was especially wonderful to see two members of our youth basketball program who are all grown up now - Justin Cardenas and Keone Billey. They are both outstanding young men and we look forward to watching/supporting their journeys. Hopefully, we can all get together again soon to play some more basketball and eventually resume competing in leagues/tournaments.
