Max's All Stars win Fall 2016 92Y A-Division Championship

Last night, Max's All Stars won the Fall 2016 92Y A-Division Championship over DiVerse by a final score of 67-49. It was total domination from start to finish. Branden Gibson, John Simmons, Marvin Billups Jr, Patrick James, Shereef Taylor, Spencer Smith and Troy Whittington stayed focused, determined and motivated throughout to earn this victory. Corey Orgias also attended to claim this long overdue and well deserved title. This team overcame a lot to win this championship. Doug Herring (who was easily the Fall 2016 regular season MVP) left right before the playoffs to play professional basketball in Uruguay for Defensor Sporting Club. He was a huge part of our success this season and we are extremely grateful. Thank you to Herman Billups and Kevin Major for filling in at times this season as well. Kevin was part of our previous 92Y teams in 2011-12 and this championship is for him and all the guys who played with us during that period of time (Angel Gonzalez, David Seagers, Ronnie Worthen Jr among them). Thank you to all the players this season for making this dream a reality. These guys did not care about individual statistics or accolades - all that mattered was winning. They played hard and worked together with one goal in mind. Different guys stepped up throughout the season and everyone contributed. Thank you to all our supporters, everyone who came to watch our games and cheer us on - you guys are the best! Max's All Stars ended the season on a five-game winning streak and finished with an 8-2 overall record.

Max's All Stars drop to 1-2 at Heart For The Game

Max's All Stars drop to 1-2 at Heart For The Game, losing vs Wolfhouse by a final score of 39-16. Elian Davis, Keshaun Cameron, Malek Graham, Savdeep Gill and Travis Sukhdevsingh played the majority of the first half because Darryl Ottley, Karl Charles, Keone Billey and Marco Bazile showed up late. In fact, the entire team was late and tip-off was delayed by 30 minutes as a result. Unfortunately, Max's All Stars got off to a slow start and struggled throughout the game leading to the blowout loss. Max's All Stars has practice tomorrow and two games at Foster Park coming up this week.

Max's All Stars win at Foster Park, improve to 2-2

Yesterday, Max's All Stars won at Foster Park by a final score of 33-32. The game started an hour late and was disorganized (as Foster Park has been all summer so far), but Max's All Stars stayed focused and ready to play. Coached by Corey Orgias, Jermaine Lewis and Patrick James - our shorthanded squad of only six players built a big lead, squandered that lead, overcame a six-point deficit and hung on for victory. It wasn't pretty, but Darryl Ottley, Elian Davis, Karl Charles, Keone Billey, Marco Bazile and Rameik Golden all persevered to earn this win. Max's All Stars will be back in action at Foster Park later today.

Max's All Stars suffer heartbreaking one-point loss at Heart For The Game; fall to 1-1

Max's All Stars lost at Heart For The Game vs the BX Heavy Hitters by a final score of 30-29. Coached by Corey Orgias, our players (Elian Davis, Karl Charles, Keshaun Cameron, Keone Billey, Rameik Golden, Savdeep Gill, Sean Eustace and Travis Sukhdevsingh) all played hard. They got off to a solid start, going up 10-0 before things began to fall apart. Missed free throws was a huge factor in the loss along with other miscues such as failing to convert opportunities in transition, blown layups and some turnovers in crucial moments. Despite all these negative things, there were some positives. Max's All Stars started off strong and battled back from a second half deficit to take the lead late in the game. Unfortunately, our young team could not seal the deal down the stretch. Hopefully, this loss serves as a valuable learning experience and motivation for the rest of the summer.

Max's All Stars struggle in unexpected doubleheader at Foster Park; fall to 1-2

Yesterday, Max's All Stars played an unexpected doubleheader in the Foster Park Sports Youth Basketball League Senior Division. In the first game, Max's All Stars lost by a final score of 62-51. Elian Davis, Justin Cardenas, Karl Charles, Keone Billey, Keshaun Cameron, Malek Graham, Marco Bazile, Rameik Golden, Savdeep Gill and Travis Sukdevsingh played hard, but little mistakes here and there prevented them from securing the win. After the game was over, the league asked if Max's All Stars could fill-in for another team that did not show up. Our coaches (Corey Orgias, Jermaine Lewis and Patrick James) asked the players if they wanted to play another game and they were very enthusiastic about it - they wanted to go again! Unfortunately, the kids were tired and played against a team that was somewhat older, bigger and more experienced. Max's All Stars fought hard, but dropped the second game by a final score of 54-36. Overall, this was a valuable learning experience for the Max's All Stars Youth Basketball Program and hopefully, it will serve as motivation for the rest of the summer.

Max's All Stars win ABC Hoops Junior Basketball League first round playoff game vs Flightz

Yesterday, Max's All Stars won their ABC Hoops Junior Basketball League first round playoff game vs Flightz by a final score of 35-34. It was a back and forth, seesaw battle between two evenly matched teams. Both squads struggled offensively throughout the contest, but late in the first half Max's All Stars heated up from behind the arc - Luke Duggan, Malek Graham, Ricardo Velez and Savdeep Gill all hit crucial threes. Late in the game, Gill lost his cool and was assessed a technical foul giving the Flightz momentum. Down three in the final minute, Gill atoned for his mistake by tying the game with a clutch three-pointer. Max's All Stars got the ball back in the final seconds and Keone Billey was fouled on a shot attempt as the buzzer sounded to end the game. Darryl Ottley, Keshaun Cameron, Rameik Golden, Sandeep Singh, Sean Eustace, Stewart Talleyrand and Travis Sukdevsingh also contributed to the first youth basketball playoff win in Max's All Stars history.
