Max's All Stars lost their 92nd Street Y Adult Basketball League A-Division season opener last night by a final score of 95-75 against Team #4 Brandon A - Red. For the first couple of possessions, both teams were matching each other shot for shot. Then, Team #4 went on a run to push the lead into the twenties, almost thirties. Max's All Stars stalled offensively, going 1-on-1 too much and not establishing an offensive flow with good ball movement. Also, turnovers were a major killer that led to a lot of fastbreak opportunities for Team #4 as Max's All Stars struggled with transition defense all night.
Team #4 featured a lot of Division I talent, led by three ex-Manhattan College standouts: Brandon Adams (6'6", F/C), Darryl Crawford (6'4", G/F) and Nick Walsh (5'10", Guard) who were joined by former Fairfield Stags guard, Jonathan Han (23 points), and ex-NBDL standout, Cameron Benison (who led all scorers with 32 points), among others. Team #4 benefited from a lot of experience playing together for quite a few years now.
Max's All Stars definitely showed improvement in a lot of areas during the second half. Earl Mills, Corey Orgias, Branden Gibson, Josiah Peay and Reed Morgan started the game with Kevin Major coming off the bench. Patrick James joined the team for the second half.
Orgias and Peay led the way, finishing with 17 points each.
